The Root Weaver
The one who makes it safe.
You make places where people can be safe. This is real work, and it is almost never counted as work. The house that people want to come back to, the friendship that is thirty years old, the sense in your children that the floor will not move — that is all made by someone, continuously, and it was made by you. You are the reason certain people in your life have never known what instability feels like.
People love you for permanence. In a world where everyone is provisional, you stayed.
The price is that you cannot tell the difference between loyalty and holding on. You keep things long past their life — a role, a relationship, a version of yourself that ended years ago — because letting go does not feel like release to you. It feels like the ground giving way. So you renovate what should be released, and you carry what should be set down, and you name it devotion. The strength is genuine. It has simply been pointed at something that is no longer there.
